St. Anthony is KSSSA’s new National champion after beating Dagoretti High School in the boys’ soccer final at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega.
The Solidarity boys won the match by beating the Nairobi champions two goals to nil, before a fully packed Bukhungu stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Dagoretti was reduced to ten men after Daniel Wesonga was handed a red card in the second half.
Solidarity’s Starman Aldrine Kibet was a thorn in the flesh to Dagoretti’s defence inspiring the two goals that were scored in each half.
The first half was a rear-attacking threat from the Dagoretti side as St. Anthony had the majority of chances in the opponent’s goal making the Dagoretti goalkeeper Bandon Omondi a busy man.
The second half looked balanced with Dagoretti pushing for an equalizer, but Solidarity’s goalkeeper Evans Yanaris stopped all their lucrative chances.
The two teams will be joined by Shanderema High School who trounced Agoro Sare five goals to one, at the match that preceded the final at the same ground.
The three teams will be presenting the country in the upcoming FEASSSA games scheduled to take place in Rwanda later this month.
In last year’s edition, Kenya was represented by former champions Ebwali High School and Nairobi region’s High Way Secondary School.
In the girls’ category, Butere girls were crowned as the new national champions after beating last year’s champions Wiyeta by a solitary goal.
Butere’s wingback Judith Akumu scored the goal enabling the western regional champions to lift the national crown at Bukhungu.
Wiyeta was determined to recapture the national title but the Butere Commandos were too strong for them in both halves of the match.
Today’s matches brought to an end the national games that have been on for the last five days.
