President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for peace ahead of the 2023 General elections scheduled for the 23 August.
Speaking at a ZANU-PF rally over the weekend at Chinorumba High School in Zaka, Mnangagwa said the most important thing for the growth and development of the country is the maintenance of peace.
“The most important thing for the growth and development of our country is the maintenance of peace. Since we began this campaign, there is peace throughout the country,” said Mnangagwa.
“Every political party is allowed to campaign however they want, but they must do so peacefully, uniting people and not dividing people.
“We are a peaceful people, we do not accept hate speech. We expect that people may have different views, that is expected. We know democracy because we, ZANU PF, brought democracy, independence and sovereignty to Zimbabwe.
“We are the masters of democracy. No one and no one under the sun, can ever teach us democracy. We are professors of democracy. Those who think that they can teach us democracy, they can jump into the sea and leave us alone. We know what we want and at what time.”
However, the country’s main opposition (Citizens Coalition for Change) leader, Nelson Chamisa, who was also addressing a rally over the weekend at Mkoba Stadium in Gweru chided ZANU-PF accusing it of being a chaotic political party.
“It is about choosing light over darkness. We have been given a chance to right the wrongs by voting for everyone’s leadership, everyone’s emancipation, everyone’s health and education,” said Chamisa.
“If you vote for a good President everything else will be good for the people of Zimbabwe, if you vote otherwise then disorder will remain. Remember a disorganised Government can easily disorganise people.
“Just look at how poor Zimbabweans have become, the whole country now stinks of poverty while others survive on stealing our resources. We want a Government for everyone, we no longer want a country which is the most disgraceful across our region.”
