Sonko in trouble as MCAs give notice of impeachment motion against him
Members of the Nairobi County Assembly have tabled a notice of motion to impeach embattled Governor Mike Sonko.
A total of 62 MCAs appended their signature on the motion tabled Thursday afternoon that seeks to oust Sonko on 10 grounds, among them abuse of office, irregular procurement for, among other projects, the Dandora Stadium and violation of the Constitution.
The MCAs are also accusing Sonko of subjecting County Executives to work under fear of intimidation, inability to provide leadership at Nairobi County and irregular awarding of tenders worth millions of shillings to single contractors for estate roads
Other grounds include irregular procurement of a Sh1.7 billion AAR Insurance cover for Nairobi county staff, poor transport systems with constant traffic and lack of street light leading to mugging and lack of approval of buildings with Nairobi county.
Sonko’s troubles started with his dramatic arrest on 6 December and has since been charged with corruption over KSh357 million procurement scandal. Sonko was barred from accessing his office until the matter is heard and determined.
