Dafabet targets more retail shops on return in bid to create opportunities for locals

Betting firm, Dafabet, one of the biggest bookmakers in the world targets to open at least 20 betting shops in Nairobi over the next month in a move that seems to enable more investors partner with the company.

The firm currently has 10 retail shops in the city is looking for partners to take advantage of their affiliate program to set up shops in different parts of the city, a unique concept that encourages entrepreneurship in bookmaking.

Under the program, interested investors identify a location then apply to Dafabet who set up the infrastructure to facilitate betting on web, virtuals and jackpots.

A source has told Kurunzi News the firm that was first licensed in the country in late 2016 is expanding the programme as a way of creating more Kenyan entrepreneurs in the betting industry.

“We have a strong corporate social responsibility model which we drive through different ways and facilitating these retail shops is one of those ways of supporting the community in which we do business,” said the source.

Under the affiliate programme, interested investors identify a location before applying to Dafabet who them set up the infrastructure to facilitate sports betting, virtuals and jackpots. Punters can also place their bets via web at the shops.

Having complied fully with all new Government regulations and requirements, the firm announced their return to full operations earlier in the week; unveiling a new playbill number – 290067.

Dafabet Kenya is the flagship brand of Asia Betting & Gaming Enterprises Limited and was first licensed to operate in Kenya in late 2016.

“Kenya is a great sporting nation that Dafabet really values. As Dafabet, we have also endeavoured to hire as many Kenyans as possible to be part of our mission and vision as a leading gaming firm,” Dafabet’s Louis Watts said.

Dafabet employs more than 5,000 across the world and has operations in Philippines, United Kingdom and China, among others.

Locally, the firm sponsors National Super League side – Shabana, while internationally they are the shirt sponsors for English premiership sides – Burnley and Norwich, as well as Scottish giants, Celtic.
