You did more than your best, Sports CS tells Harambee Stars
Despite being knocked out of the on-going Africa Cup of Nations, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has lauded the team for their sterling performance, adding they did the best they could do.
“You did more than your best. As the President said (during the team’s visit to State House before departure to Egypt), it is not about winning but about doing your personal best, and that you did,” she said.
“We are very happy that you are here after 15 years, and now it’s time we endeavor being in each and every AFCON.”
The CS made the remarks after hosting the team for a luncheon held on Tuesday at a Cairo Hotel in Egypt.
FKF President Nick Mwendwa, has reiterated the federation’s gratitude to the government for having fully supported the team as they made a return to the continental scene for the first time in 15 years.
“Never has Government been supportive as they have in our journey to AFCON. For this, we want to say asante sana,” said the FKF President.
Kenya won one and lost two out of three group C matches. The team has been knocked out of the last 16 after after Cameroon were held to a barren draw by Benin in a pulsating Group F match at the Ismailia Stadium.
The Kenyans, who started the day occupying the final third best placed teams position, could have made it to the last 16 if Cameroon beat Benin and Angola lost to Mali later on Tuesday.
