Amina Mohammed: I have never failed President Uhuru

Hours after surviving axe in the latest cabinet reshuffle, outgoing Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed, dismissed claims that she has been underperforming as a member of the Cabinet.

After being relocated to Sports ministry, a section of MPs led by Alego-Usonga’s Samuel Atandi, accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of continuously retaining Ambassador Mohammed, accusing her of incompetence.

“She has struggled to leave a mark in all ministeries. It’s time that she’s relieved off the duties. Sports ministry requires a youth. Uhuru should rethink the decision,” he said.

Appointed in 2013, Amina had a smooth ride in the Foreign Affairs Department before being transferred to education in 2018. In a tweet, she defended her track record, insisting that she’s a performer.

“Together, we made huge strides in deepening the sector’s reform Agenda. We delivered credible 2018 national examinations, successful CBC roll-out, near 100% transition from primary to secondary (93% and rising) progressive TVET and University reforms, among others,” she said.

“I congratulate my colleague in the sector @ExamsCouncil Chairman Prof. George Magoha on his nomination to @EduMinKenya. I thank all the sector players and development partners for their tremendous support throughout my headship at the Ministry,” tweeted Amina.

Before her redeployment on Friday by Uhuru, Amina was at loggerheads with university students, who accuse him for making unilateral decisions without consulting them.

Further controversy stemmed from the proposed increment of tuition fees from Sh16,000 to Sh48,000, a move that has rattled students, who had planned to force her ouster from the ministry.
